“Polyfonia” Chamber Choir was established in November 2003 by Maro Skordi. It specializes in “a capella” music and its repertory comprises classical music (Middle Ages to the 21st century) as well as traditional songs from around the world, Greek art song, songs from musicals, Negro spirituals, etc.

“Polyfonia” Chamber Choir organizes its own concerts twice a year: a concert with a themed or varied repertoire (Around the World in 60’, Concert in honour of the Cypriot musician Demetris Petrides [1931-2014], etc.) and a Christmas Concert. Apart from carols and Christmas songs, Christmas concerts have also included Byzantine hymns as well as works by Marenzio, Bruckner, Gardner, Rutter, Malotte, Vivaldi, Handel, Schubert, Britten among others. 

 In addition, “Polyfonia” regularly performs in various musical events, conferences and festivals following invitation by organizations such as Goethe Institut, the United Nations in Cyprus, the University of Cyprus, the University of Nicosia, the Ministry of Education and Culture, Arte Music Academy.  

Festivals and Conferences it has participated in have included Larnaca Christmas Festival, Ayia Napa Medieval Festival, Paralimni Cultural Winter, Tuscany International Choral Festival, ISME Conference (International Society of Music Education) in Thessaloniki; 

‘Polyfonia’ has collaborated with many well-known soloists, music groups, conductors and composers:

Collaboration with soloists and other music groups:  “Polyfonia” has appeared in concert with with the French performer of crossover music Emma Shapplin, and has also collaborated with the ‘Okto’ guitar chamber group (conducted by Demetris Regginos) and the guitarist Vasilis Avraam (Julio: Concierto Junglair, Tedesco: Romancero Gitano, Aguiar: Ave Maria, Salmo 150 and Surinach: Via Crucis conducted by D. Bouzanis). 

Collaboration with composers. ‘Polyfonia’ Chamber Choir was a basic participant in «Long Distance Call» by the contemporary Dutch composer Merlijn Twalfhoven. It performed music by the Cypriot composer Christos Stylianou and participated in KYPRIA 2007 in Michalis Christodoulides ‘Kryfoi Anemoi (Hidden Winds) – 40 Years of Creation”.

Collaboration with conductors.  Polyfonia’ Chamber Choir also worked with the conductors Ayis Ioannides (‘Behold the Man’ - Bach chorales), Roland Melia (16th cent. Madrigals, Byrd, Purcell, Liszt, Pitoni, Tallis, Britten, Bortniansky, Th. Papacontstantnou’s Byzantine Mass, Charpentier: Messe de Minuit accompanied by organ and a string quartet), Demetris Bouzanins, (Music by Spanish composers, «Polyfonia Pop» - a medley of songs by Beatles, from Disney movies and musicals [Mamma Mia, Les Miserables] accompanied by the pianist M. Toumbas, in Nicosia and Limassol, Stabat Mater by Karl Jenkins), Alkis Baltas (participation in the Cyprus Symphony Orhcestra’ s Christmas Concert performing Alkis Baltas’ ‘The selfish giant’ and a co-operation with CSO and the Cyprus Theatre Organization in ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by F. Mendelssohn),  Yiannis Hadjiloizou (Duruflé ‘Requiem’ accompanied by Lambis Pavlou [organ], Anna Pavlou [electric piano] and Doros Zesimos [cello] and Stelios Hadjiktoris (A Music Workshop and B. Britten: A Ceremony of Carols). 

 Following an invitation by Europa Cantat, ‘Polyfonia’ Choir participated in the edition «European Folk Songs» Carus 2.501 with the Cyprus folk-song ‘Psindri Vasilitzia mou’, arranged by Demetris Petrides.
